KEWANEE - William L. “Bill” Hansen, 67, of Kewanee, died at 7:05 p.m., Thursday, November 22, 2018 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

A gathering service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, November 29, at the Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Rev. Dan Craig will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday. November 28 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Bill Hansen Memorial Fund.

He was born on October 5, 1951 in Kewanee, the son of Robert and Shirley (Richards) Hansen. He married Roseanne M Whetstone on May 22, 1976 at the First Baptist Church in Kewanee. She survives, as do three daughters, Leslie (Matt) Vigor of Quincy, IL, Meagan (Brandon) Robbins of Kewanee and Sara (Brad) Engels of Bloomington, IL, five grandchildren, Henry and Simon Vigor, Kylie Robbins. Alec Engels and Davis Engels, who was born just four days earlier at the same time of Bill’s passing, two foster granddaughters and three brothers, Bob (Leona) Hansen of Kewanee, Tom (Mary) Hansen of Franklin, IL and Denny (Dorthea) Hansen of Kewanee. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bill graduated from Kewanee High School in 1970. He had worked in the produce department at Wal-Mart. In earlier years, he had worked as the produce manager at Eagles. In his high school years, he had played varsity football as a freshman and then played bass drum with the band. He was active with the First Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon, singing in the choir and was director of the missions. He had been a member of the Jaycee’s and had played catcher for their soft-ball team. As his girls grew, he became active in their lives by serving as an assistant Girl Scout Leader and as a service unit director for the Kewanee, Cambridge and Galva Girl Scout Units and as the First Aider for Summer Camp.  He was also a Girls Little League Coach and had been active as a prison chaplain for the Kewanee Youth Prison. He enjoyed bird watching and was an avid Chicago Bear fan as well as a White Sox, Cubs and Cardinal fan.
