Text | Jan 8 1945 Monday Dear Sister Well I have been trying to find time to write to you for quite a while But it is pretty hard to find time. But I have a few minutes now so guess I had better scribal off a few lines. The weather hasn't been so good here lately It has been snowing quite a bit But I think it may clear off soon I sure hope so. I received two letters from home last night that you wrote But that is all the mail I received It has been 3 days since I got any from Jo. But I think I will get some tonight from her. I received a package from Jo's aunt in Moline night before last. It was a pretty nice package. It had soap, shaving gream, tooth paste, face powder and a box of candy in it. Jo wrote about what she got for Christmas this year it sounds like she had a pretty nice Christmas as she got a lot of gifts. I am glad Mom got the Xmas card I sent. I sent two cards so she should be getting another one. I also sent you and her each 4 cards from Paris. I thought maybe you would want them for your scrap book. I sent Helen and Esther 4 each too. It sounds like the weather is not too good at home now either. It must be a real snow at home. I am glad you like to work at the Westerlunds. It should be a nice place to work. I sure am glad Tommy is better now. He must be putting on a lot of weight the way every body says. The snow drifts must really be big at home you say they are as high as the hedges. It takes a lot of shoveling on them. I don't imagine Bernard and Margaret have much trouble with the roads as they keep the roads open all the time there. The snow plow goes all the time on them roads. So I don't think the snow bothers them. Yes, Jo told me about the Christmas gifts she got you. Those snap shots must have turned out pretty good that she had enlarged. I hope I am home soon to see them. Jo said you were not having any Christmas party this year. I guess it is just as well as things are so hard to get. I guess there was a lot of people this year that never had there partys. Jo's relation never had theres either. It is hard when a lot of the boys are in service. I said she sent out the gifts with Bernard and Margertte as she was figuring on going to church that Sunday morning. But after Bernard and Margertte came it was too late to go but she will make it out there one of these Sundays with them I am sure. It isn't quite as cold here as it is at home you said it froze 4 inches of water It hasn't done that here yet and I hope it don't I don't believe it is going to get to awful cold here we have plenty of clothes we can put on if it does. Jo said she got a wedding picture from Bernard too. So she had to dig up one of ours for them. She had some put away in a chest. Helens package came in good shape Esthers package was about the only package that was smushed up a little. So I was pretty lucky at that with packages. Well guess this is all for now I can't seem to think of much news I hope that I am home soon to see you all. Goodnight now Write when you find time Your Brother Les. |
