Text | 23 May 2006 My ancestors came from Sweden so this site is really a labor of love for me. I noticed some of your ancestors came from Tirsrum. I do have a couple of pictures from there that I'll send you. My 15th gr grandfather was a priest there in 1630's he got thrown out for "running wild with guns and knives and scaring women and children" OH BOY!! Swedish genealogy has been my love for the past six years. I lived in Sweden for a year researching my family. I loved it there. Gives you a whole new understanding of the emigrants. I've attached a picture of a group of farms where your ancestors lived. It was incredible! I'll never forget it. I stayed with a couple who were wonderful, Jöran is a district prosecutor. They totally immersed me in the Swedish life. We traveled all over the country, they taught me history, I took a course in Swedish and spent 20 hours a week reading church records in the archives which was in a castle built in 1400.. The last week I was there they took me to every farm that my ancestors had lived at. I cried all day! Most farms are still there even from the 1700's, must be the red paint!! I will put a link on both my Henry site and Swedes site to your site. . I'm having a hard time separating them because as you know many many Swedes lived in Henry and also Rock Island county where I'm from. My 15th gr grandfather was Andreas Thoreri Gelsenia. I told my uncle "that was YOUR grandfather!" It's actually documented in the Swedish history of the church! A lot of the priests got into the sacramental wine! I think that's why Sweden has such tight laws on alcohol now! History is wonderful, I agree. It seems like for every answer there's more questions. |
