Text | 2 NOV 2007 I am researching the family of William Pease and Arilla Gipe and am working with a group of others to help sort out this family tree. I am not related to the PEASE family, but rather to the GIPE family. My ancestor is Arilla, through a child born to her prior to her marriage to William PEASE. The rest of the people I'm working with are descendants of William and Arilla through their son Leonard. Leonard had two full siblings - Emma (married John Kegebein) and Nora (married Thomas Imes and Harry Adams). George and Elizabeth (Barncord) GIPE came from Franklin County, PA. George's parents are unknown. Elizabeth's haven't yet been confirmed, but the record would suggest that her father was Jacob BARNCORD and mother was Catherine (possibly Brubaker). I have good evidence pointing that direction, but nothing definite yet. I would be interested in discussing these folks further. I recently returned from a research trip to Illinois and picked up quite a bit of new info while I was there. ==================== 4 Nov 2007 Let me add to and correct some of your data. . . Arilla GIPE was born in Illinois, probably May 1857, location unknown. The GIPE family purchased their farm in Buda, Bureau County, in 1861. Arilla's older sister, Rohanna/Ruhama was born in 1855 in Indiana. All the older children were born in Pennsylvania. The family is in Franklin County, PA in 1850 and in Bureau County, IL in 1870 and 1880. Despite looking long and hard, I've found no census data for them in 1860. Arilla had a younger brother, John, born in Illinois about 1859/60 and another brother, Samuel, born in Dec. 1863 in Buda. The family should be in Illinois in 1860, but where I don't know. Arilla is listed in the 1870 census as "Mary." My ancestor is an illegitimate daughter of hers, born to her when she was just 13. Mary Ellen GIPE is also known as Ella Burns. I have a lot of documentation on this that I can share with you if you are interested. Emma M. Pease was born in Illinois, not Michigan. The 1880 census was incorrect. In fact, all of William and Arilla's kids were born in Illinois. Emma died in Princeville, Peoria County in 1909. I have her obit. Arilla remarried to M. F. (Matthew Frederick - went by Fred or Frederick) Harrison in 1891 in Stark County. In the 1900 census, Fred and "Lily" Harrison are in Stark County and Lenard and Nora are in the home with them. It took years, but I finally located Arilla in 1910. One of the cousins said that an aunt told her that Arilla died in Bartonville State Hospital. I did massive research and came up empty. But, that was before I pulled William Pease's 1910 obituary. Attending from out of town was a Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Wilson of Princeville. Knowing that this is where Emma was living when she died a few months earlier, I looked for these folks in the 1910 census. James A. Wilson was found there with a wife "Arila" whose data matched our Arilla. Finding that also explained a 1930 census record I found for one of Arilla's grandkids in Henry County. In the home of a Kegebein man was his Step Grandfather, James A. Wilson. Now it all came to make some sense. I'm still looking for Arilla's death record. I have a possible lead as an Arilla Wilson died in Rock Island County in 1917. I haven't yet pulled that record. ---------- You can add a few more kids - David, b. Jan. 1846, Henry & Elizabeth (both appear to have died young. I have Elizabeth's burial, as well as another for a child named George), Jacob, then the kids you have listed. The first kids were born in PA, Rohanna/Ruhama in Indiana, Arilla, John, and Samuel in Illinois. | |
