Text | George Weldon Funk MCLEAN (PNS) - George Weldon Funk, 86, rural McLean, died at 2:05 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph's Hospital Medical Center, Bloomington, after a short illness. A graveside funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Funks Grove Cemetery, the Rev. Marvin N. Orewiler officiating. There will be no visitation. McReynolds Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born Oct. 30, 1895, at McLean, a son of Isaac G. and Besse Florence Funk. He married Elizabeth Nicholson Aug. 2, 1954, at Oak Park. She survives. Also surviving are a sister, Florence Funk, Westminster Village, Bloomington; a niece; and a nephew. A brother preceded him in death. He was a retired farmer and was a World War I Army veteran. He was a member of Watertown, N.Y., Masonic Lodge. He was a graduate of Lawrenceville, N.J., Preparatory School, and a 1919 graduate of Princeton University, Princeton, N.J. He worked in a paper mill in Watertown, returning to McLean in 1930, where he raised fruits and vegetables for sale. He managed the family farm until his death. From 1941 until 1947 he was a radio engineer for WJBC, Bloomington. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Foundation. | |
